Staying Connected While Social Distancing: Gaucho Mentor Edition

Looking for ways to stay on top of your mentorship while we are social distancing? Here are four ideas you can try during your next meeting(s).

1.Coffee Over Zoom- Start your day with a boost by connecting with your mentor/mentee. Share some of your favorite morning routines that you either can’t live without or help you be more productive. Perhaps try their routine one morning and see how it works for you.

2.Goal Setting and Reflection- The program cycle is ending, but your mentor/mentee relationship doesn’t have to! If you have a goal that you want to share/ work on in the upcoming academic year, write them down and discuss it with your mentor/mentee. Perhaps they can contribute to your goal, or simply be a cheerleader as you make progress along the way.

3.Start Your Own Book Club - Select a book together and schedule a zoom/phone/email check-in every few weeks to discuss the chapters you've read. Check out NPR Book Concierge

4.Get To Know Your Mentor/Mentee- One way to strengthen your bond with your mentor/mentee is to get to know them better. Below are some questions that you may use to explore your connections:

  • What would you say is the biggest lesson you are learning recently?
  • Where is your favorite place in the world and why?
  • What’s a character trait you wish you could develop and why?
  • What are three qualities you appreciate in a person?
  • What are your top pet peeves?
  • What has been the most challenging experience you’ve had and how did you overcome it?
  • How could I help you in becoming the person you want to be?
  • Can you describe a time when you felt truly encouraged and supported?
  • What do you value most now that wasn’t the case before?
  • What is one of your biggest hopes for your future?
